From what I can figure out from this article, she didn't die from a contaminated balut, but from choking on the hardened white albumen, and subsequent medical (in)action to try to remove the albumen. Seems like her daughters ate two each and were fine. But this article seems a bit confused; either she didn't die (unlikely), or this article was written before she died. |

You're right. It says on the title of the article: "almost died", meaning the it was definitely written before she died. After the article was written, she passed away.

I did some digging and found some additional information. She didn't die from eating the balut. She choked when she swallowed it whole. She said she felt disgusted when she tried to eat it so she swallowed it not realizing the white part (albumem) which is hard was included. You're not supposed to swallow that part to begin with. She was passed around by multiple hospitals claiming they don't have enough equipments to do surgery like that. The hospital staff where she had the surgery didn't do a good job taking care of her. That's why she died of infection. I saw her facebook profile and everyone who knows her comments about getting "justice". The poorly written news article didn't even include the part where she actually died but only covered her facebook post about her ordeal when she was still alive.  |

I think balut is a really shitty thing but they're gonna keep eating it regardless of what I say. Looks like the hospital murdered her, not the balut.  |

Balut is not actually a rotten egg. it is a fresh egg with a live developing chick inside. they let it develop to a predetermined stage and boil it. and it has to be eaten on the same day it was boiled or it reall rots. it is a big no no to sell a reheated balut. you cook it today, you sell it today. left overs are isually thrown away although some opens the unsold ones, dip them in breading mix and deep fry them to sell as fried balut. but even those must not be over a day before its fried.
