I saw pictures like this but they were described as "Uranium babies" because the mothers were in contact with the substance from bombings.

I think the older Harlequin sufferer to date is about 15 years? Only had it "mildly" and had to moisturise his skin 4-6 times a day to keep it supple...

I think you are thinking of vernix, which is indeed normal on babies when they are born...it protects their skin...this poor little thing...had Harlequin's disease. He will be lucky to live, much less ever look like a "normal" baby.
