When Prayer Goes Wrong
The patient came to hospital after loss of vision and other symptoms for a year. His family refused medical treatment and opted for prayers. Another year passed and he was brought back to the hospital like this. The patient had a tumor, most likely bilateral retinoblastoma. Unfortunately definitive diagnosis through histology or even imaging wasn't available. This was in a rural village in Tanzania. He died a few weeks after this picture was taken while awaiting referral to the national hospital. |

Re: When Prayer Goes Wrong
Well, if they prayed for him to die, then I guess their prayers were answered...

Re: When Prayer Goes Wrong
This is beyond horrific. I only have deep sympathies with someone who suffered, and died, because of fucking religion.

Re: When Prayer Goes Wrong
Surely religious folks must understand that God also allowed science and medicine to develop so that this type of stuff doesn't have to happen? I mean, I am a Christian myself and I take a bunch of medication. If I was to stop all my medication and switch to prayer? I'd be about dead in 6 months. Prayer is great when it is positive and encouraging but it is not something that should a substitute for medicine.
