Vibrio Vulnificus — Flesh Eating Bacteria
This is Vibrio Vulnificus, a bacteria that lives in the oceans and of which the American health authorities have warned of the increase and presence of this disease, especially in the waters of the Gulf of Mexico. Vibrio vulnificus is a bacterium that normally lives in warm seawater and is part of a group of vibrios that are called “halophilic” because they require salt. The main route of infection is usually the ingestion of contaminated fish or shellfish, but the bacteria can also cause an infection by entering through an open wound due to contact with contaminated water. |
