** PSA ** All animals featured in the following images received appropriate medical care. ** PSA ** Whew, I've been gone a while, but I'm finally back, and with a backlog of interesting images! I work in the veterinary field, and here are some of the "day-to-day" and also the "weird and wonderful" that can come through the door at a moment's notice. |

What happens when a puppy decides to eat some driveway gravel. It all came up (along with some rawhide - equally dangerous!) without incident.

Not a real obvious problem, but one that could have cost this pup her leg! After jumping out of a moving vehicle  she managed to fragment several of the bones in her wrist (carpus). These x-rays were taken over the course of several weeks to make sure the fragments either healed in place or were absorbed. If they had migrated into the joint, we might have had to amputate her leg.

A huge abdominal mass, found on x-ray and then removed, along with the spleen it was attached to. Splenic tumors are surprisingly common in dogs.

A chihuahua that was shot with a BB gun during a neighborly dispute (yes, in a trailer park). The staple up at the front of the shoulder shows where the BB entered the chest. It missed the heart and vital vessels, and the wound was small enough it didn't even collapse the lung. The dog recovered just fine without surgery.

Poor baby chihuahua......I have 2 older ones-both rescues, the 3rd passed from a malignant tumor-and I cannot abide by the idea of them being hurt or abused. We're currently adopting 2 more......sisters, 9 weeks old.......cuteness overload!!!!!! The owner has too many, can't take care of them and can't afford the shots/medical care. IMO, it is responsible for her to admit this and find them good homes.
