Re: Unhappy Legs
Okay, I am her worst nightmare..........I am a pre-med student and I am pretty straightforward/blunt....I say she is infected. Nothing against you or your family, BUTTTTTTTT it pisses me off how people put off going to the doctor until an appendange is fucking dying/rotting the fuck off. One of a couple things can happen....she can get DAMN lucky and it heals itself (me laughing) or she can break down and see the devil (a.k.a. medical professional) and get antibiotics and go into the hospital. You still have to face her either getting better or contracting sepsis (September is National Sepsis Month!!!). She has to make her own decisions, but you have to be the own answering to the authorities when she passes out from shock and/or dies. Hate to put it that way, but let us be real sweet cheeks...............

Re: Unhappy Legs
I know someone who waited too long go to to the hospital and she ended up sepsis, slipped into a coma and died and she was YOUNG. Is it really worth it? Force your mother in law's lazy ass to the doctors.. Her leg is going to become more infected and smell disgusting.. |

Re: Unhappy Legs
Probably diabetic, my grandpa had legs like that and he was diabetic, and like her he wasn't very active and could hardly walk. His weren't QUITE that bad though. Seriously knock her out and take her to the Dr or ER or something she's gonna lose that freaking leg |

Re: Unhappy Legs
Like everybody said...................take her to the doctor!!! I know you cannot force anyone, BUT, it is needed. It is not always diabetes, but just straight up infected. Doctors are NOT the devil, most of us have the patient's greater good in mind.....at least ones like me.

Re: Unhappy Legs
This looks like lymphedema. http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/lymphedema/DS00609 It is very painful, and causes a leaking through the skin of fluid (lymph) which is waste byproducts from the cells. Since it is a waste you should avoid any contact and wash after. I have had this and it is miserable. |

Re: Unhappy Legs
Like ya'll said (and I've been saying) she ABSOLUTELY needs to get medical attention. AND I MANAGED IT. I went at her half the morning with logic, horror stories and everything else I could think of -- because at 8am today her leg was just...hideous. Scarier than previous images. I almost got sick looking at it and I've got a strong stomach -- and she finally caved. Right at this moment she's in an ambulance on her way to the ER. The EMTs were appalled and snappy with us at first, but after dealing with mom for fifteen minutes (it took nearly 30 for them to GET the woman on the gurney because she fucking wasn't cooperating and demanded she get to smoke a full cigarette and a half first) they both looked at the wife and I and went "You poor bastards." Mom wasn't happy about THAT, but she went. Praise whatever deities you want, the woman's getting HELP. Wife went with her, I'm at home to "hold the fort". Thought ya'll might enjoy the update - or at least be relieved. Oh, and Christy - you might be Mom's worst nightmare, but you're more like an angel to the wife and I. Neither of us suffer from the same "medical issues" that mom does and have a lot of respect for medicine and those following the medical profession. We appreciate (the wife and I) all the input given. Also, glad ya'll enjoyed the horrorshow. I'll try to keep some updates on her condition and the healing process (if she'll let me take pictures, I'll provide those as well). |

Re: Unhappy Legs
Well, did you find out what it was? How is she doing?

Re: Unhappy Legs
Not much word yet, actually. Since I stayed home I am not privy to minute-by-minute information. The one call I did get lasted under 4 minutes: she's very sick indeed, should have come in sooner (of course, we knew that). She shouldn't lose the leg though, that's a bit of good news. Also good is that the hospital is keeping her for at least a night.

Re: Unhappy Legs
Agreed. More than likely she is diabetic. IMO, you and your significant other should drag her to the doctor. You would not want this to backfire on you and someone accuse you of neglect since you said she is handicapped. You have the patience of a saint. Good luck! |
