Tyler Ziegel Divorce and Wedding Photo: Burned in Iraq, December 22, 2004
Tyler Ziegel, a U.S. Marine sergeant from Metamora, Illinois, suffered severe burns and other injuries when a suicide bomber struck his convoy in Iraq on December 22, 2004. He lost his left arm below the elbow, three fingers on his right hand and sight in one eye, and underwent dozens of operations. Ziegel married Renee Kline on October 7, 2006. Nina Berman's portrait of the couple before their wedding won first prize in the Portraits category of the 2007 World Press Photo contest. The marriage later ended in divorce. Ziegel died on December 26, 2012, at age 30. Although he had fallen before his death, Peoria County Coroner Johnna Ingersoll said heroin and alcohol, rather than the fall, caused his death. A coroner's jury ruled the death accidental.     |

That is so sad and if the divorce is true, that really sucks. I applauded her for marrying him in the beginning as despite being disfigured he was still the same person she fell in love with.

I wouldn't blame her or anything. Perhaps it just wasn't the same anymore? He's probably not the same person after that, so maybe it's not the man she fell in love with. |
