You would actually be surprised. There are many accounts of people that have been in psych. hospitals that have been severely constipated and stomachs swollen and nothing is done. I am not sure how it is now, but I do know 'back in the day', the people watching the mentally ill could give a shit less about em. They wouldn't document bowel movements, which is required by the state, and wouldn't document other things. There's one case in particular that sticks out in my mind, an dI can't think of the girl's name, but I know her family ended up suing the facility b/c it was a case like this and there was NO documentation, and no one had actually been in to check on her for hours. She ended up 'backing up' and had feces coming out of her mouth.<--There's a more proper word for this condition, but I'm drawing a blank on it right now! She had actually been dead for awhile when someone actually went in to check on her.

But yes....sadly, it did happen alot. But hopefully, that has all changed.
