Re: Some EMO Girl Needs Serious Help
did you really say "determination"? It's a pathetic quest for attention. And if any of you cutters disagree, your lying. and you know this is true, so don't attempt and justification.

Re: Some EMO Girl Needs Serious Help
hard to say since i don't personally know this cutter. she is definitely very ill. i am not one to judge. let those without sin cast the first stone. it definitely looks as if she is with all the photographs. however you should know that these pics were originally posted only in her own website, they were stolen from there by someone she trusted and then went viral. i've learned this from other cutters, some who know her personally. not all cutters post pics. we are definitely not all seeking attention. most keep their cutting very private. you may very well have cutters in your life, but you will never know because they keep quiet and covered up. people in my life had no clue. my cuts were in a place that would never be seen even in the tiniest of outfits. i don't cut anymore. it's a method of coping with pain and/or trauma, but a very unhealthy one. i was always trying to quit and now i have. |

Re: Some EMO Girl Needs Serious Help
It's not always a cry for attention. I don't cut myself, but my sister in law used to do it. Like DaughteroTheNight said, it is a method of coping with pain. The people that do it are "sick". They need help, and support from people that care about them. I don't know this girl's situation, but typically it is most certainly not a cry for attention as they go to very great lengths to make certain no one knows. And when they are caught, they feel very ashamed and do everything they can to take focus off of it or explain it away. That's not every case. I am sure probably many are a cry for attention. Especially the little chicken scratch cases you see much of the time. But certainly not all and probably not even nearly the majority, are cries for attention. It's disturbing when people pretend or assume to think they know the situations and feelings of others. How can anyone know how another person feels. We're all so completely different, even in identical situations. Edit: And personally I think even the "attention" cases, with the little scratches and stuff, deserve much less condescension than people give. Even that shit can turn into a serious and fatal situation. Human life is worth more respect than someone with a superiority complex often gives it. That's not directed at anyone in particular, but for fuck's sake it's sick when people act so high and mighty about stuff like this because they don't do it themselves, or care. |

Re: Some EMO Girl Needs Serious Help
I have worked with mental health patients and very many of them use cutting as a coping mechanism and they certainly don't boast their scars. Most try to hide them, perhaps because of being ashamed of themselves. One lady was worried bout how she can tell to her 5-year-old daughter why mommy has so bad-looking arms (really nasty scar tissue in both of them). So no, it isn't always some kind of "pathetic attention whoring", for many it can be the only way to try to relieve their agony.

Re: Some EMO Girl Needs Serious Help
think of it this way peterdragon. 99.9% of people would not willingly cause themselves pain and scarring just to garner attention, it has to be an illness. those of us who cut, have obvious problems. i found help in therapies. D.B.T.; C.B.T.; A.C.T.; Mindfulness meditations; one on one therapy. i'm still at work, i'm going to make sure that i never go there again. |
