Re: Sharon's Brain Haemorrhage When Aged 19

I'm glad too see you doing well Shazza, that's quite a story!!! 5 yrs. ago my step mom had something rupture in her head the day before she was to go have surgery on it,The day after Christmas, they planned the surgery for after the holiday, unfortunately for her it was a day too late!!She had a bleed on her brain that the Dr.'s said the vein that ruptured was an inch and a half around and they had to do immediate surgery too relieve the brain of the pressure the blood was putting on it. All we could do was wait, she was in a coma for 6 week's and we didn't know the extent of her brain injury, and wouldn't know until she woke up. It was the saddest I have ever seen my father.Well she woke up but had quite abit of fighting to do to get to were she's at today, she also uses a cane, and one of her eyes veer's off,and her memory is shot, it's sad cause she'll walk into the bathroom and forget why she is there and how to even get back too her bedroom. But she's alive and my dad could'nt be a better husband, he take's loving tender care of her, and I think it's beautiful!!Also on a sad note for me, my 7yr. old boy died of a traumatic brain injury so hearing that people can survive and live a good life somehow comfort's me.

Re: Sharon's Brain Haemorrhage When Aged 19

You know, sometimes I think I have something simular, but not near as severe. I have always had a bad sensitivity to light( I sneeze every time i go outside or in a bright room.) I have horrible headaches for no apparent reason. sometimes I feel like I'm about to pass out because my vision turns blurry and I get a horrible headache. And some days I feel so lethargic its hard for me to function... And for all the trolls, no, this isn't after a night of drinking...

Re: Sharon's Brain Haemorrhage When Aged 19

It comes and goes, right now I'm having trouble typing for some odd reason. The light sensitivity comes and goes. I think it may stem from my years playing football. I developed scoliosis from lifting weights when I was 13-17. I still function correctly, but sometimes I truely wonder what's going on. I'm just not me anymore. I function fairly well and have been going to a state college over the past few months, and I've noticed that my grades vary on quiz's drastically even though I study frequently. My health insurance covers specialist (50 dollar copay for CT scan), so I'll update everyone when I get the results.

Re: Sharon's Brain Haemorrhage When Aged 19

An AVM is a tangled mesh of abnormal blood vessels directly connecting arteries to veins in the brain. AVMs form accidentally prior to birth. An AVM can form almost anywhere in the brain, brainstem, or spinal cord, but they are commonest in the main cerebral hemispheres. An AVM near or on the outer surface of the brain can cause bleeding there (a subarachnoid haemorrhage - what I had); if deeper, it can cause bleeding inside the brain itself (intracerebral haemorrhage).

The haemorrhage may be large or small, and depending on the extent and location of the bleed, damage to brain tissues may be fatal or disabling, or relatively slight.

AVMs occur in approximately 3 of every 10,000 people. They appear rarely in several generations of the same family, and are more common in men. Bleeding from an AVM most often occurs between the ages of 10 and 30
- I was 19.

Image below shows a ruptured one, that is blood you see in white. I had more but you get the idea.

The symptoms I had were:

Sudden and severe headache
Couldn't tolerate looking at daylight (photosensitivity)
Muscle paralysis all down left side (hemiplegia)
Decreased sensation down left side
Sleepiness, lethargy, disorientation, irritability & urinary incontinence!

I'm now left with migraines & acute vascular spasms; have to walk with a stick due to bad balance; used to have post-surgical epilepsy; left-sided mild numbness from bum cheek to foot where it's very numb; spasticity from knee down to foot where none of the muscles work but I can walk (the docs told me I wouldn't walk again). I'm having foot/ankle surgery soon so I'll be in less pain.

Now I'm struggling still BUT high as a kite on the opiate Tramadol, muscle relaxants and valium at nights

Please always take care and if you get persistent, localised headches that never shift, get down to your doctors and demand a CAT scan!!!!!
I want Tramadol and muscle relaxants and my very own valium. Want it want it want it... Love opiates and other cool drugs.

You'd be so jealous of my stash John! Yum yum yummy legal drugs and all of benefit Oxycodone liquid and tabs were alright but I quickly got used to them. I have some morphine patches indoors too In all seriousness though, I'd rather be healthy and not on all that. Or actually healthy and still on it!
