That's actually "purge" coming from her cranial orifices - which usually happens after someone has died of a respiratory infection or renal failure (could happen to anyone, though, really). The candle is part of her heritage, we call it a vigil light. The candle is kept burning from the moment of death up until disposition of remains. Common with Asian communities (among many others). Looks like she could've died from just about anything, and the parents could not afford any restorative work (ie embalming) or a proper casket. They likely held this meager ceremony and buried her in the same sheets.
