Re: Scars Do Not Change a Person

Thanks for the background, rubbernecking!

My dad has been to Bangladesh many times and stayed in some villages there...I've heard from him and others about things like that. I always somehow hope that people in poorer countries would learn to cherish life more than we do, which we take for granted.

But people can be just as cruel if not more so towards people who are different. So sad...but she's is immensely beautiful. Her eyes are so stunning...

Re: Scars Do Not Change a Person

Actually her name is Labonya Siddiqui, 21 years old, and originally from Bangladesh. She was burned when she was 8 years old from an accident when a match she was handling lighted a kerosene lamp. She's had a hard life growing up with the scars from the cruel taunts and comments both in her native country as well as in the UK where her family moved to when she was 11. Good to see her now empowering herself.

From some of the other comments on here, yes she does mention that acid attacks against women do happen in her native country and there is a stigma against women with any scars.

Her incredible story at this news link:
Thanks for the extra info, though now I feel a bit thick for making assumptions....

If she would wear a sweater and makeup it's barely visible.
