eukocyte adhesion deficiency 1 (LAD-1) is a rare autosomal recessive disorder of leukocyte function.LAD-1 affects about 1 per 10 million individuals [1] and is characterized by recurrent bacterial and fungal infections with reduced inflammatory response despite marked blood neutrophilia. Children with severe disease present in infancy with recurrent, indolent bacterial infections of the skin, mouth, respiratory tract, lower intestinal tract, and genital mucosa. a 5 yr old with this horrible infection   |

Total epidermal necrolysis involving the face (a) trunk and extremities, (b) with a positive Nikolsky's sign, (c) skin biopsy from the abdomen shows epidermal necrosis, subepidermal bulla with scattered necrotic keratinocytes, neutrophilic exocytosis and neutrophils in the papillary dermis suggestive of toxic epidermal necrolysis, (d) (H and E, ×100)

awww how cute are these animals in the womb Producer Peter Chinn used a combination of dimensional ultrasound scans, tiny cameras and computer graphics to create these photographs of baby animals. Chinn made the images for a National Geographic documentary called Extraordinary Animals in the Womb, which tracked the process of growth, from conception to birth. Aside from being scientifically interesting, these images are visually engaging. We (or at least I) rarely imagine what different animals look like inside the womb, and beyond being informative Chinn’s photographs are actually kind of beautiful cat  bat  cheetah  chihuaha  dolphin  elephant  horse  penguin  |
