Had some trauma to my thumb last year. Thought I had a piece of foreign matter working its way out, but I picked at it a shit ton, and this sort of tunnel of skin wrapped like a rose was finally pulled out. With my teeth I might ad.

The one pictured is really one of two. I pulled a smaller less developed looking item of similar makeup out of my thumb a few months before this one came out.

This area of my thumb after healing from explosive trauma, was always very tender in this one area (where the thing came from). Once removed, I felt a strange deflated feeling in my thumb as I had pulled out this thing and it had the width of a grain of rice (uncooked) ~.065" The OAL was about .375" frankly it felt like it pulled straight out of my thumb, but it must have been in a position where it rode over or around the bone because it was long enough to have gone to mid bone or more if it really went straight in. I would shudder to think that it might have been growing into the bone. Now that I think about it though, the thumb bone where this thing was, was completely obliterated and they tell me they just pushed a bunch of bone mush together and let it become a new bone. So, I guess I could have had skin cells inside with the bone mush that was growing out to the surface of my skin? freaky.

Examining the hole where it was removed from, I had a droplet of blood but after that the irritation and tenderness abated. After several months I can confidently say there are no symptoms as before removal.

This thing looked like half worm, half rosebud. The thing was like a root. Very odd indeed.

I searched around a bit, but don't seem to see any pics of anything like it when I do an image search.

Um, did you not bother seeing a doctor? You should take it for a doctor to see, possibly get an x ray as well, if theres anything else in there im sure it would be good to get out, what exactly happened to you?

Reminds me of this thing I saw on YouTube- the guy had something like a 'worm' of skin coming out of his ear for two days. Getting longer and thicker, went to the emergency room twice, and was told they didn't have a clue. Went to a ENT guy who removed it. I will see if I can find it and get you the link. It isn't dangerous, I don't think, but your 'object' reminds me of it on a much smaller scale.

A bit more info.

blew up both my thumb and forefinger trying to reset the hammer on a .50BMG rifle.

the firing pin blew out the back of the bolt and through my forefingers first bone and the first bone of the thumb.

I had surgery to repair a cut tendon and to clean out the wounds.

8 weeks of pins and then had them removed. Rebroke index finger. and resplinted till fused again.

It's probably a bone fragment. I had one come out my fingertip from an ankle injury ten years before.
