i hold kevin carter in high regards, because unlike ALL of the people that have called him names, and said he was a bad person, wouldn't have gone to do what kevin had done. to open our eyes to what is going on in this world.

Whatever. You two bozos claim it's easy for us to sit here and condemn the guy, but it's just as easy for you two to pass judgement on us. If you were so passionate about it, then $$ for a plane ticket wouldn't stand in your way. Sell your car, TV, jewelry, material possessions, most of your clothes & get your asses over there to help. Oh but wait, deep down you don't want to leave your comfy life here, you just want to gripe at others & not lead by example. I do my part, although it's where I live and not overseas. I'm a single father & my responsibility is to my two kids, and one thing I teach them to help others in need. Whether it's volunteer work, helping a homeless person, showing them pics from helping with habitat for humanity, having them taking canned foods to church or to school for food drive - they know firsthand to be thankful for what they have & that there are others worse off than we are. And no, I'm not trying to put myself on a pedestal, but rather to show that I my part - what do you two do? So with that said, yes, shame on him for not picking up that child to take him to the UN food hut or whatever. Him shedding light on how bad things are isn't enough. And to quote: "...he wished he had intervened". Yep, that sums it up: he KNEW deep down that not helping that child was wrong, so that's why he killed himself.

Probably been mentioned but in the book House of Leaves one of the main characters is partially based on this fellow and this picture plays a somewhat significant role. Great book.

edit: I'm also fairly sure that he was told to keep his distance from the natives because of some sort of contagious disease.
