Re: Photographer Committs Suicide After Horrific Photo
I think people need to actually read the full story for the facts. This another case of misunderstanding the man's intentions. Kevin was prevented from helping the children by armed soldiers. These pictures where taken in the middle of an active warzone, so military presence was strong. Another fact that people gloss over is the fact that, the mother of the child in the photo was nearby, within eyeshot, getting food packages from the UN helicopter that Keven had arrived in. Yes, he committed suicide because of the things he saw. But he wasn't out to profit. Keven himself said he wanted nothing more than to help those children, but was prevented from doing so by UN troops. Honestly, get the facts before making hateful comments. :T |

Re: Photographer Committs Suicide After Horrific Photo
I don't know if this is true either but its possible. And if it is it reflects the smoke and mirrors tactics of most journalists. The most prevalent cause for suicide in adult males is Shame. Not "ohhh.. our planet is so filled with woe... Ive seen so much and Im so wizened...I must leave this cruel, cruel world..." |

Re: Photographer Committs Suicide After Horrific Photo
I recently read about this. I guess he was sent to photograph people somewhere in Africa and he saw this child. He wanted to help this little boy so bad but he wasn't allowed to. He literally had guns pointed at him telling him not to go near the child. There were red cross aid nearby who did help the child. When he got back to the US and had his photo published he started getting hate about how he was taking a picture instead of helping the kid. Really sad. |

Re: Photographer Committs Suicide After Horrific Photo
Something that I haven't seen mentions yet -- this photo was taken with a telephoto lens that made the perception off, and the vulture is much further off that it appears. As others have said, the mom put him down to get food and returned with food. Even if the journalist was able to pick up the child, I'm not sure what people would expect him to do? Take the kid away from his mother?
