Photographer, Kevin Carter (1961-1994), commits suicide from suffering depression, after taking horrific photographs.

On 27 July 1994 Carter drove his way to the Braamfontein near the Field and Study Centre, an area where he used to play as a child, and committed suicide by taping one end of a hose to his pickup truck’s exhaust pipe and running the other end to the driver's side window. He died of carbon monoxide poisoning, aged 33. Portions of Carter's suicide note read:

"I'm really, really sorry. The pain of life overrides the joy to the point that joy does not exist... depressed ... without phone ... money for rent ... money for child support ... money for debts ... money!!! ... I am haunted by the vivid memories of killings and corpses and anger and pain ... of starving or wounded children, of trigger-happy madmen, often police, of killer executioners ... I have gone to join Ken if I am that lucky.

argh, i hear that 'bad world' song every time i hear about this guy or see his photographs. Hes literally seen the worst of the human condition and chose to leave this world. That takes courage.

Shoot...i remember talking about this in one of my college majors...everyone wondered what happened with the kid and the vulture. Very sad indeed

since i am almost constantly suicidal and have more attempts than i can count; i get to say this. it takes more courage to see the worst this world has to offer and stay.

Kevin was a coward. He took the cowards way out. He chose not to help make the world a better place. Notice that he photographed a baby crawling toward food but he refused to give the baby food.
