Re: Obtaining Skin to Create Skin Grafts

Does the skin grow back like normal?
My dad had skin grafts taken from his thigh when he was run over aged 5 and it left quite the scar. I'd imagine some degree of scarring is left but the skin does grow back and heal fine.

Re: Obtaining Skin to Create Skin Grafts

They also do it to burn victims. It must be horrible.

Fire must do something to your nerves, too. When I worked for PI Attorneys, we had a guy who was burnt from his neck down from some kind of propane explosion.

He could not sit still and made me nervous pacing and getting up and down.

He got just under $2M.

Re: Obtaining Skin to Create Skin Grafts

I had this done in 1988,still feels weird. No hair grows there, and it itches all the time. But i'm glad they did it,because they used the skin from my thigh(and various other parts from my other foot and my head) to re-construct my right foot which had been caught in the spokes of a motorcycle.

Ugh looks like a cheese slicer.
Better a cheese slicer then a cheese grater*.

Re: Obtaining Skin to Create Skin Grafts

I had that done on my right thigh to put on my left thigh in 2005. The graft harvest site looks pretty normal.

I have a spinal cord injury, so I cannot feel the area - but I'm sure it would have been quite uncomfortable during healing.
