Wonder if it hurts.
It's done to cadavers who were donors and whilst the patient is under anaesthetic - they won't feel it.

It'll sting afterwards in surgical cases no doubts

I used to help prep a body to remove skin from the chest downwards. I hated that damn potato peeler device they used, brrrr!!!!! It was the top few layers that were removed, to just above the muscle and fat layer.

Does the skin grow back like normal?

Live people give skin grafts too though. Especially if you need a graft yourself it is taken from a part of your body.

Medical term for the instrument is a 'dermatome'.
Cheese slicer is better tho.
