My Sons Hemangioma * Update

First Post! :] I first noticed it right after he was born, just a few small red spots. By the time he was about three months the spots had spread out and became engorged.

We went to a few doctors and finally got prescribed a medication called propranolol, which is usually used to treat high blood pressure.

It worked for a little bit, decreasing the size. But after 5 or 6 months on it, it wasn't doing anything anymore.

He's been off from it for about 2 months now and the size has once again increased. He's ten months right now and it's about the size of a quarter.

Maybe a bit bigger. I don't know what the next step is. More propranolol or surgery.

Update
My son is now a bit over 3 years old. The hemangioma has decreased in size significantly. It's not as engorged. We talked with a doc about laser surgery but never went through with it. He had a MRI done about 2 years ago to check blood flow to his eye and everything was good.

I'm confident that it will be completely gone by the time he is 6 or 7. I have had our second son since this post was originally put up and he has no hemangioma's. Weird genetics, I guess. :P

Thanks Kelly:] As far as I know, his eyesight is fine. But who knows what the long term effects could be. We just need to get it figured out before anything happens.

Re: My Sons Hemangioma * Update

My daughter has one on her head, but nowhere near the size of this little guy's! I would look into surgery, if there's a possibility it could affect his vision.

Re: My Sons Hemangioma * Update

Thanks Guys:] My husband wants him to get surgery. But he's my baby, ya know. I don't want to see him hurting. But kids can be bullys. And my hubby doesn't want him to have to endure that. So we're going to look into laser surgery. We might try the propranolol again to see if it helps any. If not, we're going to figure out our other options.

Re: My Sons Hemangioma * Update

I hope it can be removed so his vision isn't affected. Adorable boy! He's hubby's baby, too, and he probably doesn't want the cruel kids tormenting him.

It's better to get it taken care of while he's young. We don't want to see him in another section as a tree man. Seriously! No good mother wants to her baby in pain, but, think of what could happen long term.

Good luck with his treatment. Check back with those after pics!
