Oh man, that sucks hard. Grateful that MRSA isn't a huge problem around the parts I live in, but having any infection on a joint repair of any sort is bad news. Hope it gets sorted out.

he had both knees done. the right one (mrsa) has, since day one, has been awful. he spent 3 weeks in doggie icu with an infection. a year and a half later we noticed it was looking strange and we took him to his doctor and the did surgery. the removed his hardware and scraped and lavaged and cut out the infection. but... its started draining.
he is taking tramadol (pain med) 50mg 4 tabs bid (twice a day)
and his antibiotic is doxycylcine 450 mg po (by mouth) twice a day

Oh, poor dog! I hope he recovers- is the other leg affected? Hopefully it will heal, but I know a lot of 3 legged dogs and cats that get along just fine, if it goes that far. What kind of dog?

he is a carolina dog (a real breed) so far his leg is looking really good. i will upload a new pic soon. his other leg is perfect (yay!)

he went in today for his 2 week check up and it turns out he grew out human mrsa!

What?! There's a separate type for dogs? Anyway, it looks good. Keep an eye on it though as MRSA can be pretty sneaky about coming back.
