My Daughter's Rash

Sorry it's so big, but I figure this is the best way to see the detail on it.

My daughter developed this rash over night, and we cannot figure out what the hell it is.

She developed a similar rash on her thighs, though not nearly as severe, shortly after we bought our dog a few weeks ago, but this doesn't look to me like an allergic reaction.

Do any of you guys know what this could be? If it helps anything, she's 10 months old.

Looks like what I get when I have an allergic reaction to certain detergents.

Re: My Daughter's Rash

Hmmm, do you think it could be because of the dog though? We haven't changed anything as far as cleaners go.

Re: My Daughter's Rash

That really does look like contact dermatitis. It may be the dog, but I'm more inclined to think she may be developing an allergy to your laundry detergent. What kind do you use?

Re: My Daughter's Rash

Did she have a fever before the rash came up? If so it maybe a common illness that alot of babies get, I forget what its called, begins with R, Rosella or something like that. If thats what it is then its harmless and bub will recover well.

Re: My Daughter's Rash

Of course I would suggest seeking out the pediatrician, but if turns out to be the contact dermatitis the first thing I would do is switch laundry detergent for the baby. My daughter had very sensitive skin as an infant (runs in the family) so used Ivory snow or Dreft. They are specially made for babies skin.

I think if it were the dog she would have more of a hive-like rash and other symptoms as well.

If she gets uncomfortable and it appears to be itchy, then I would go ahead and take her the baby ER since it's the weekend. She may have to be prescribed something for it.

Hope she feels better soon.

Yea, it doesn't seem to bother her at all. As for the pediatrician, she just told us that it was "nothing" and that we shouldn't be concerned

I'll suggest to my wife that we try switching detergents, hopefully that will work.

As for BUTTERFLYLOVE, you were close It's called Roseola, also known as Exanthema Subitum. She didn't have a preceding fever though, which is why I kind of wrote that off as a possibility.

Re: My Daughter's Rash

Manufacturers generally recommend that you use 2-4 times the amount of detergent that you really need. This is, of course, so that you end up buying more product.

I used to get rashes similar to those of your daughter due to using too much detergent.

I now use a No Dye No Perfume detergent, half (or less) the recommended amount of detergent and sometimes will run an extra Rinse Cycle.

So far, no more rashes.

Good luck.

Re: My Daughter's Rash
