My 15 Y/o Son Had a Tib/fib Fracture
This is my 1st post so please be nice...lol It was the day before labor day of this year and we were at a cookout. Some adults and kids started playing dodgeball and well, my son tried to "dodge" the ball and he tried to jump up in the air, but the right foot for some reason didn't leap up in the air with the rest of his body and so therefore twisted the leg and broke the tibia and fibula. It cracked all the down to the ankle above the growth plate. We took him to the ER in the back of the truck (i know it looks funny, but we were only blocks from the ER). He was admitted into the hospital and needed surgery on labor day. He had an emergency fasciotomy because he developed compartment syndrome and had a wound VAC placed and also an external fixator. He then had his 2nd surgery on Wednesday (2 days later). The surgeons put in 4 screws, had a skin graft done from the thigh, closed one side of the leg with stitches, and had the wound VAC taken off. He was in the hospital for a week. We are now home and he has to have the external fixator on for another 4 more weeks and then will have a short cast on. My first post was about my fiances tib/fib fracture and dislocation (he's military and was hit by a military police car lol). I know how distressing this is, just horrible! I hate that you son has to deal with it so young, but at least he's got mama to take care of him! Painful pictures.. good luck!!!
