Re: A Mother's Pain During Birth

I gave birth twice without drugs (not my own choice, they couldn't fine the anesthetist...both times...at two separate hospitals...wtf). There is really no words to describe the pain, the sense (in my case at least) that you're going to die, or the relief afterwards. Childbirth is gory and terribly painful but mother nature has a way of making you forget all that, otherwise you'd never have more than one child

You do see those women who keep popping them out to abuse or kill them, but, they don't feel anything at all apparently

Re: A Mother's Pain During Birth

You'd have to cut that shit out of me.

That's exactly what they did to me...after pushing for almost 5 hours. I was ready to do the c-section myself!!

I agree...the pain is something hard to describe. The contractions felt like going down the biggest roller coaster - that feeling you get in your gut...only that fluttering feeling is like having a burning knive just jammed in there over and over...while going down the damn roller coaster!

After a few of those, I so ready for the epidural and all the pain meds they could find!

After being in labor for almost 16 hours, five of them hard pushing, they decided to do a c-section. I wish we could have just skipped right to it!!
Needless to say, we only have one child!!

Re: A Mother's Pain During Birth

In this entertaining and informative Radio Lab podcast (2013) on pain scales, a long discussion is given to an "experiment" done on women laboring in childbirth who volunteered to participate with hopes that labor pain might become better managed in the future. Discussion begins at audio mark 10:25.

Prior to that, discussion is development of a venom-based pain scale, also interesting, but not on point.

As for myself, I have delivered two children. My first, 9 1/2 lbs; my second in my neighbor's audi in the backseat on a highway and traffic circle and finally ER parking lot at dawn. One day I will post the picture of me holding my son in the backseat.

(I have also miscarried.)

Re: A Mother's Pain During Birth

I have the autoimmune disease Psoriatic arthritis. My body has been through hell and I haven't even had kids yet! My absolute worst pain was back in July. It felt as if both of my hips were out of socket, broken and that every bone in my arms had been crushed. A giant dose of steroids and the strongest pain medication they could legally give me without putting me on liquid morphine and I was still in pain. I joked later that I probably wouldn't have to have drugs if I had a baby cause the pain I had prepared me for anything. Hahaha!

Re: A Mother's Pain During Birth

child birth wouldn't be so bad if woman weren't lying on they're backs when they push the little bastards out. it's actually not a natural position for childbirth.
