Re: A Mother's Pain During Birth
I agree...the pain is something hard to describe. The contractions felt like going down the biggest roller coaster - that feeling you get in your gut...only that fluttering feeling is like having a burning knive just jammed in there over and over...while going down the damn roller coaster! After a few of those, I so ready for the epidural and all the pain meds they could find! After being in labor for almost 16 hours, five of them hard pushing, they decided to do a c-section. Needless to say, we only have one child!! |

Re: A Mother's Pain During Birth
In this entertaining and informative Radio Lab podcast (2013) on pain scales, a long discussion is given to an "experiment" done on women laboring in childbirth who volunteered to participate with hopes that labor pain might become better managed in the future. Discussion begins at audio mark 10:25. Prior to that, discussion is development of a venom-based pain scale, also interesting, but not on point. http://www.radiolab.org/story/233143-pain-scale/ As for myself, I have delivered two children. My first, 9 1/2 lbs; my second in my neighbor's audi in the backseat on a highway and traffic circle and finally ER parking lot at dawn. One day I will post the picture of me holding my son in the backseat. (I have also miscarried.) |

Re: A Mother's Pain During Birth
I have the autoimmune disease Psoriatic arthritis. My body has been through hell and I haven't even had kids yet! My absolute worst pain was back in July. It felt as if both of my hips were out of socket, broken and that every bone in my arms had been crushed. A giant dose of steroids and the strongest pain medication they could legally give me without putting me on liquid morphine and I was still in pain. I joked later that I probably wouldn't have to have drugs if I had a baby cause the pain I had prepared me for anything. Hahaha! |
