Cultural issues more than anything else I presume. In many places around the world a "surprise" baby brings tremendous shame not only to the girl giving birth but the families involved. This "shame" factor overrides everything even if it means the inhumane disposal of a newborn. I have seen this up close and personal and I cannot understand the mentality of these people regardless of the culture they come from. I have to remember that life in some places is cheap.
