In India, Nasal Myasis is a common sight, most experts think because of the climate and temperature there. But cases are still believed to be rare worldwide but most come out from India.

There are different species of flies who need a host to reach adulthood by laying their eggs in a living host such as animals or humans. These flies get attracted by the smell from the nasal cavity and lay their eggs inside the nose (but cases of maggots in the mouth or ears are also known). In addition to the stench these patients have a relatively insensitive nose because the sensory nerves are already damaged.
