Re: Lobotomy

The third pic wasn't an icepick lobotomy. I think there was something else going on there. Anybody hear of Howard Dully? I believe that's him in the last pic. His stepmother had talked his father into getting him a lobotomy. You can read his story here: http://www.npr.org/templates/story/s...toryId=5014080 It's pretty interesting stuff! Rosemary Kennedy, JFK's sister, was also one of Freeman's patients.

The seventh picture looks a little bit more like an early ECT treatment, or maybe they were prepping him? Interesting post! Thanks!

Re: Lobotomy

Jabbing an icepick into someone's eye socket and moving it "back and forth" isn't an exact science. The effects vary. Rosemary Kennedy was reduced to having the mentality of a child, while the person in the article that I posted is high functioning. I guess its comparable to just about any brain injury, there's different degrees of effect.

so what are the actual effects of this treatment, motor skills, personality? how do you continue to function?

Re: Lobotomy

Sickening. A lobotomy is nothing more than pretty much removing your personality.....tabula rasa.
