RPG and 40mm grenades arm themselvs on the way to the target if they hit a target that is too close it will not explode.

The following is AFAIK.


Most RPG-7 (the most prevalent terrorist RPG) and prior models, I believe, are armed as soon as they are fired.

The RPG-7 rounds are supposed to self-detonate 4.5 seconds after firing whether or not they hit something or travel a certain distance. They are not spin armed.

The 40mm grenades are spin armed. The grenade is fired from a rifled barrel which imparts a spin on the round. The round is not armed until a set number of revolutions to ensure the round is far enough down range to not injury the person that fired it.


There is always a certain amount of malfunctions and duds, though.
