Re: Live RPG Removal (Surgery)
If you hang around combat zones, sooner or later, something bad will happen to you. Could have been a dud round (these things are Commie bloc weapons and are often old and not stored well) or it hit enough soft tissue that it did not trigger impact detonation. Who knows? It's not the first time something like this has happened. I read about an incident like this that happened during the Vietnam war. They built up some sandbag walls around this guy that had a live RPG round in his buttcheek so that a volunteer surgeon could remove the round. The guy lived. Same thing has happened with 40mm grenade launcher rounds. Rare, but it has happened. There are some truly heroic surgeons around. The process of surgically removing an explosive round easily has the potential to kill not only the patient, but the whole medical staff too. |

Re: Live RPG Removal (Surgery)
Found some more info. Yes. He lived and appears to be in superb health. The warhead was not inside the patient, but the booster and sustainer (with fuse) were. http://www.militarytimes.com/multime...er/51745112001 |
