Lawnmowers - not an acceptable substitute for nail trimmers.

I can't picture a scenario where I'd ever stick my fingers into a running blade.

Re: Lawnmower Accident

i've done the same thing.
luckily didn't lose any fingers though. had several lacerations and bled a lot. it broke my middle finger in two places, the proximal phalanx and middle phalanx. my index finger was broke in the middle phalanx.
they drilled k-wire into the middle finger, i basically had 4 pins in it holding the bones together.

so now they question everyone wants to know, how did it happen?

it was a large stand on commercial mower. it has an electro-magnetic PTO clutch to turn the blades off and on while the engine is running. the clutch also has a built in brake so when the blades are turned off it automatically slows them down quickly if it's adjusted right.

it was hot, i was sleep deprived and in a hurry. I knew the cutting deck was getting clogged on one side. i shut them off but because of how wet it was from the moisture in the grass the clutch didn't stop the blades faster than it took for me to shove my hand in there.
