Re: Infected Abscess

What does a 'wound vac' do? Keep air out of the wound, or drain it somehow?
BTW- impressive pus jetting!

Wound vacs provide gentle negative pressure on an affected area to help draw out *stuff*. They should draw out *stuff* like that which was rainbowing out of the wound even after removal of the vac.

Done (and monitored) improperly, wound vacs can kill you. Even though (now) can't find a recent reference to it on Google, there was a VA case in the last 5 years where a wound-vac patient was not monitored properly and was basically "over sucked" by his wound vac application; dead, dead, deadski was the result.

I remember sitting in on presentations by one of the wound-vac vendors that visited our office. The foam they use in that application retains like 80% full-flow even when compressed down to 5% of uncompressed volume. Some serious James-Bond-shit going on in that foam.

Re: Infected Abscess

Those wound vac dressings (or sponges if you prefer) also are made with silver oxide infused. When I had one I was told it helps decontaminate the wound. Somehow helps draw out the nasty stuff.
