I have looked after a number of people with such hernias - its a medical emergency when the part of the intestines involved in the hernia start to die, because once they are dead thats it the section involved has to be removed.

My dad had one of those - he no longer has a belly button after having surgery on it. Quite strange looking. Kinda looks like a deformed smiley face where his belly button used to be.  He now has another one that he needs to get checked out. -_-'

My son had one when he was about a month old luckily it didnt stick out too bad and his pediatrician kept record of out and said in children moat of the time they resolve themselves. Which my son's did thankfully it never got crazy like the pics posted though.
