Re: I'm Back with Another Medical Question...(tooth Extraction)

Take 1 aspirin and 1 benedryl before it starts throbbing. I've had to do this every day, several times a day, for a few weeks after dental work. There is a nerve and sinus cavity that the roots almost touch on that can be aggravated by the work.

Does the pain flash around, sometimes upper, sometimes right or left, sometimes lower, sometimes the whole head hurts? Yeah, your one of the lucky ones. I know exactly what you are talking about. It's agonizing. Do what I said above.

Could be an abcess or infection mate where you may need antibiotics

Sounds like migraines, if you're getting nausea with the headaches.

Re: I'm Back with Another Medical Question...(tooth Extraction)

Think about it rationally. A molar can have 2, 3, or 4 roots. Extraction removes these roots, which were in your jawbone, with nerves, blood supply, and tissue surrounding them. Extraction is trauma. You SHOULD have pain, and should continue to have pain as the tissues repair themselves, the nerves reroute, and the bone heals. If you had stitches (which you probably did), they can also cause headaches if they are rubbing against your gums or you are chewing on them with surrounding teeth. As long as you are keeping the area clean, it will heal within 6-8 weeks. If you have a monojet to clean the hole left, use it. Use a medicated mouthwash to gently clean the area.

Are you planning to have an implant? Did they use bone graft powder to promote bone healing? I had an extraction in June, and just had the implant done a couple weeks ago.

For pain, find the right combination for you. Ibuprofen worked for me somewhat, but I used Naproxen and found it worked better. Don't overdo the aspirin if you're still bleeding. In fact, if you're still bleeding after 5 days, go back and see the dentist. It's too early for dry socket. BTW, you should have been on a prophylactic course of antibiotics before the extraction.

Re: I'm Back with Another Medical Question...(tooth Extraction)

I've pulled my own teeth since I was twenty-three, starting with impacted molars. I'm fifty-six now and I've been my own dentist the whole time. I had dry hole once, and that does hurt like hell. Once, a root from one molar broke off in my jaw, prying that out was painful too. I've stitched myself up a few times as well, not orally, skin lacerations and such. But I feel for you, I can take pain pretty well anywhere on my body, except above the neck. Everything seems to be connected and the pain spreads so easily. A toothache once made my ear ring and my eye blurred. Head pain sucks.

Re: I'm Back with Another Medical Question...(tooth Extraction)

Sorry DR, but of the few sites I visit, this is the only one that has really helped me however dickish some of you can be.
I had my first tooth extraction the other day; the top right rear molar. It seems to be healing fine but I've started to get a very persistent headache and I can't tell if it's related.
It started on that side sort of and spread to the back of my head. Now it's on the complete other side and the tooth side seems fine now.
I was taking Ibuprofen for my tooth but it does nothing for my head, so I started taking tylonel sinus for my head. It worked for a day but now my headache is so bad I feel like throwing up, and I've tried everything it feels like.
Baths, a rag on my head, masturbation, but it's still hurting me terribly.
I don't get to go to the doctor very much because I'm disabled and I have no one to drive me without being screamed at about being a burden.
So I kind of have to rely on asking for help on the internet...
So is this related? Is it something deadly? Idk, I'm dying here.
If you are in that much pain from just a tooth extraction...you need to call your dentist ASAP...
As someone said it could very well be a dry socket and the pain with those is excruciating... And it doesn't get any easier with the passage of time either in fact it could cause you to get an abcess or infection... I'm afraid if you want to get something done about it...you are going to have to ask someone for a ride to the dentist and block out any crap they give you for having to give you a ride... I can't imagine what kind of friends you must have that they would give you a hard time for something so petty... I think I'd be looking for new friends if I were you... You shouldn't have to take their crap...especially when you're already suffering... Kick em to the curb I say...
