I noticed that too. The poor thing had been very badly neglected. But if it was dead, why bother squeezing out that thing? It didn't look good either way.

I know rats can be put under without too much risk, as long as they're on a heated pad that keeps their body temperature from dropping, but I don't know about hamsters... They're way tinier than rats.
