Re: Herpes Zoster Ophthalmicus
Had chicken pox when I was 8... sucked... was VERY ill for a week.. still have a scar from a lesion in the roof of my mouth.. This is something I been wanting to talk to my doc about, as I DO NOT shingles.. My grandmother was iffy on getting the vaccine.. I told her to get it..showed her some pics like these..she got it.. and is good. From what I do understand/remember, it is not only having chicken pox before age 1. It is any age. If you had chicken pox at any point in your life, you have the shingles virus inside you. (As the post read, if you had Chicken Pox before you were 1 year old, then you have an even higher risk of getting shingles.) Fuck shingles... |

Eye doctor here. We manage/treat HZO a lot. On an unpleasant note, shingles is the number one medical reason elderly people commit suicide. The pain can be truly devastating....

Re: Herpes Zoster Ophthalmicus
Yes, scarring can be an issue, especially if the cornea is involved because it can cause blindness by destroying the cornea necessitating a corneal transplant, which is a still a pretty barbaric procedure. What is called disciform scarring can occur and it destroys the clarity of the cornea.

Re: Herpes Zoster Ophthalmicus
Recently had a patient at my job that got shingles, TWICE. Horrible. She had to cut a lot of her hair off. Hit one side of her body the first time, then the other side about 3 weeks after she healed up from the first. It looks so painful, omg her skin was like layered scabs. Shingles can cause permanent nerve damage, and can result in life long symptomatic nerve pain. Unfortunately a few of these pics are actually mild cases! I am scared to hell of staph infection and shingles. |
