Heart Beating Outside the Body of a Baby
Ectopia cordis is a very rare congenital abnormality where the heart forms out side of the body. The chest wall and sternum are not formed. Ectopia cordis (Latin: "outside/away" + "heart") is a congenital malformation in which the heart is abnormally located either partially or totally outside of the thorax. The ectopic heart can be found along a spectrum of anatomical locations, including the neck, chest, or abdomen. In most cases, the heart protrudes outside the chest through a split sternum.  · |

Does the baby live long? I mean I've never seen or heard of a case where they actually have a normal life and build a device or graft skin and bone over it. But what is the survival rate,or approximate life expectancy?:  |
