Re: Head Trauma MRI
"subdural hematoma along the convexity surface of the right cerebral hemisphere" Translate to: Massive blood clot on right side of brain caused by some sort of trauma or injury. " Incidently noted is severe fibrous dysplasia involving the right frontal skull and facial bones" So the shape of the head was not actually caused by the accident. It's a medical condition that was caused by the disease known as fibrous dysplasia. It's congenital. Meaning it started early in this persons life and progressed to this point. Since they say it is incidental the meaning is that the fibrous dysplasia and the trauma and resulting blood clot are not directly related. Fibrous dysplasia term is referring to the fact that normal development of skull bones begins with a fibrous mesh of tissue that normally develops into hard bone. Dysplasia is the abnormal development of this process. In this disease the fibrous mesh stops developing and remains mushy. It forms poorly and this severely distorts a childs head, resulting quite often in the "bugged out" pop-eye look. Really sad for this kid. He most likely fell and injured his delicate noggin. Oh ya, I forgot to mention that Subdural means that the clot is under the Dura or tough membrane covering the brain. Dura Mater I believe. Been 30 years since I took pre-med so I am a bit hazy on the details. Nice x-ray. I found the article and couldn't find any more information than what Sharon already posted. |

Re: Head Trauma MRI
Poor kid bumped his noggin. His head was like that from the disease that's mentioned. Blood clot is from the bump. Also kids with this disease lose vision and hearing so he might be at that stage where getting around becomes more difficult and dangerous.
