It can get stuck as well. A former friend has a 14 year old son and every time he came around there was this foul odor. After a bunch of times I said something and then a few weeks later she told me his foreskin got stuck as he was too lazy to pull it back and wash it. Now hiss mom inspects it every few days to make sue he is washing it. Sad thing is this odor was around this kid for over 6 months and then it took her 3 more weeks to figure it our, shows how these people live and why I don't talk to them anymore.

Nope, his good parent argument is perfectly valid. The so-called "benefits" of circumcision are false and are perpetuated by the US medical establishment because circumcision is an easy way to make lots of money. It is also a violation of a doctor's primary oath (amputating healthy, normal tissue from the genitals of an infant is clearly harmful). The US is the only country that still commonly performs routine circumcision on boys (Canada, the UK and Australia used to do so but the rates have all dropped considerably). The vast majority of Australian parents and doctors now know better and do not circumcise.

This is either a hygiene issue or an untreated phimosis issue. The majority of phimosis cases can be treated with steroid creams and stretching exercises, although there are very few cases where circumcision is necessary. This particular man's problem in no way justifies circumcising infants and children and I'm glad to see that most of you have not suggested that.

You can't say a parent is bad because they circumcised their son based on information they had at the time, we know better now so the practice is less common. A 'good' parent is one who loves and nurtures their child and helps them grow into an adult. There are plenty of parents out there who although they haven't circumcised their sons, treat them badly ie; beatings, sexual abuse etc etc. Are they still a good parent? I think not.

I see what you are saying. Certainly any parent who has access to the info we have now (ie today) and still circumcises is a bad parent. You're right that 30 years ago the info wasn't available. Respecting the child's right to his intact genitals is not the only thing that makes a good parent, but it is part of the equation today.

I am a human rights activist and this is one area where human rights are often ignored. I am glad you did the respected the rights of your sons. You would not believe the stupid things I have heard trying to justify circumcision in this day and age. I am usually expecting such stupidity so I tend to get my back up as soon as these discussions start. Thanks for replying!
