man I do recall many moons ago my hubby and I were camping a plane dropped us off and flew back in 1 week later we were camping in a very beautiful spot,well we saw a bear and one cub...we got really scared hopped in a made shrift raft that someone else made whan they got dropped of few months back and we were safe,but needless to say we got back to camp anmd our food was gone,but we had a back pack on us full of dried goods plus we had a cooler that was closed real tight thank god and we made it htow the next week we had cell phones but no contact,with ranger,,it was still fun..lol

We are lucky to only have the very rare black bear in this area. However, we do have a very large puma that ranges our area. Conservation officers have observed it, as has my roommate. She observed it lounging in the shade about 100 yards from the edge of the "mowed yard" while she cut the lawn. Ever since, we don't mow the yard without bear spray and a sidearm. Sometimes puma around here will mistake a riding mower for a prey animal, such as a calf. Lucky for me, I only saw that cat several years ago when it was still fairly adolescent. |
