Frostbite Gangrene
Frostbite-induced finger gangrene leading to multiple amputations. Frostbite occurs when skin and tissues are exposed to cold temperatures for an extended period, causing ice crystals to form within the cells. This freezing damages cells and blood vessels, leading to reduced blood flow and oxygen delivery to the affected area. Initially, frostbite may cause numbness, tingling, and discoloration of the skin. As the condition progresses, the skin may become hard, swollen, and blistered. In severe cases of frostbite, the lack of blood flow and oxygen to the affected tissues can result in necrosis, which is the death of tissue cells. Necrosis typically manifests as blackened, discolored, or mottled skin in the affected area. The tissue becomes non-viable and can lead to complications such as infection and gangrene if not treated promptly. Amputation becomes necessary when the tissue damage caused by frostbite is irreversible and poses a significant risk to the individual's health and well-being. The decision to amputate is often made after careful evaluation by medical professionals, considering factors such as the extent of tissue damage, the risk of infection, and the potential for functional recovery |

She should get tattoos of little pairs of eyes above the stitches. Then she’d have a bunch of funny faces to laugh at when looking down at where her fingers used to be. |

Re: Frostbite Gangrene
See! You are one of those glass-half-full kinds of guy, looking on the bright side! This place needs more people of your mental caliber! If I was her, I would be asking the doctor: "Can I play the piano after the surgery?" and then when he says "Of Course!", I'd tell him: "That's good! I never could play it before!" |

Re: Frostbite Gangrene
Gotta appreciate the pink painted nails on the black fingers on top of the amputated fingers…as a nurse I kind of love this |
