A male horse with testes is called a stallion. A male horse without testes is called a gelding.

A female horse is called a mare. A mare used for breeding is called a breedmare.

All baby horses are called foals. A male foal is called a colt. A female foal is called a filly.

Hope that helps.

Re: Foal with Abnormally Large Head Born Dead

According to http://stirile.rol.ro/teroare-printr...ti-917100.html, this was a horse's foal, not a calf.

Both the broodmare and this foal died.
thanks.
google translation is soo shitty when it comes to slavic language (or asian) but i will change the title etc. but it looked more like a calf than a foal to me looking at mouth so i choose cow lol
found extra pic so looking at the neck it's clearly a foal.

Yeah my first thought, well, my second thought; my first thought was OH MY GOOD GOD", then I though Hydrocephalus, or some sort of neural tube defect; poor baby, genetics can be so unforgiving when they turn against you

Re: Foal with Abnormally Large Head Born Dead

How on earth did the poor mother give birth to that poor little soul?

Certainly is not punishment or an act of God - genetics can be a bastard
Great minds think alike my friend; look at my comment about geneticsevery single living thing is at their mercy obviously. And when its not your time to live, its tough.

I swear the article used the words "broodmare" and "calving" in the same sentence, which is impossible because calving is a term used almost exclusively for cows and other animals whose babies are referred to as calves, (whales, for instance). I actually got a FB pal in Romania to read the article and she got confused as Hell by the words too, but that she was under the impression, judging by the picture, that the weird thingamabob is a deformed FOAL. So who knows
