Five Pictures of Brown Recluse Spider Bites

It was a quite morning at 5:00 am May 6, 2002 and I was lying in bed with my wife. I felt a slight tickle on my thigh of my left leg under the covers and began to chase him.

My hand has hit the cover, I felt a slight tingling sensation on the leg. I do not know what time would change my life forever, I lifted the covers to see the outline of a small quarter sized brown spider on my bed. My wife awoke with a start and asked "What is it?" I said: "It looks like a spider. Hold on. "I ran to the bathroom, grabbed some tissue and quickly grabbed the spider and threw it down the toilet.

My wife came into the bathroom to look at the spider and all we said at that time was "Wow, it's a big spider. I flushed toilets you with a sense of personal victory. Almost at a time when the bite area swelled to a quarter size area. This afternoon I went to the doctor and he asked me if it was brown recluse.

I have never seen a brown recluse before but my wife and I agreed it was probably after hearing the description of one, but I always thought those spiders were in the south of the Illinois. The doctor gave me antibiotics and around the area with a marker and he sent me on my way. Later that evening a white infected area formed in the area of the bite.

I am told this is called the "Bulls Eye" and some say it is a harbinger of a brown recluse bite. The area around the bite site turned blue, dark red and had gone outside the circled area. My wife took me to OSF Emergency Room where they rushed me to surgery. I spent eight days with a cut to the bite area to drain toxins from spiders and it nearly 24 hours a day on intravenous antibiotics and pain medication.

It's the end, I had a 5 inch diameter in the area of dead tissue, a consequence of these toxins removed from my thigh. My next step is 8 days the skin graft, which tells me that the skin from another part of my body and put on the cut area. But this area will never look the same.

I am a resident of Beijing in a suburban-type neighborhood. I never thought this type of spider was here in Beijing and central Illinois.
