this is lame I did nearly the same thing 'cept it was through my thumb and I pushed it through the nail and cut the barb off and poured iodine and rubbing alcohol on it till it went numb... then finished drinking!!! fucker hurt for weeks, though felt like it was still in there.

it was done on purpose in my opinion. I am a fisherman and I can tell you the fishing line tied to that hook is not heavy enough to be used with such a large hook. plus look how the hook went in. like he used his right hand to do it.
