Re: Firecracker Devastation To Face

Bullshit. I've had firecrackers go off in my hand as a kid; hurt like hell but didn't break the skin. What we're looking at (if fireworks related at all) is the result of looking down the pipe of an artillery shell when it launches.
I'll pass on your conclusion to the facial reconstruction team who dealt with this incident.

Just joking

I agree..either that, or it was a M-80 or a quarter/half-stick.. And if it were an M-80..he had to have had it IN his mouth! (In a closed fist, M-80's are known to take a finger or 3 with them)

Most explosive fireworks are illegal here..but not hard to get during the summer months (4th of July/Independence Day) we have stores in my state where you can buy them if you have a somewhat clean record and can get a letter from a fire department.
(Most fire dept's in Pennsylvania usually have a keg of beer located on premises, To give you an idea of how serious they are here, most are known as "Hosies",Wedding receptions, block parties..etc..all at the "Hosie".)
Make matters worse? (or better if you like fireworks.)
all of the Fire Dept's here are volunteer based, If you know someone? you can pretty much buy enough fireworks to blow up whatever you want.

Re: Firecracker Devastation To Face

M-80 = "a large firecracker"

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M-80_(explosive)

The article did not specify size/type of firecracker but the suggestion made above by mintycbo seems very plausable

Below are what they look like:

Re: Firecracker Devastation To Face

I'm going to add in on the M80 or similar group. That sort of trauma just cannot be gotten with your everyday firecracker(s). Whatever that kid was playing with, it had a LOT of firepower to tear up that much flesh and bone.

God, that is going to be one awful, painful recovery...

Re: Firecracker Devastation To Face

To all of you saying that was an M-80 in the mouth.... that's a crock of shit. It would have killed him instantly. That's a quarter stick of dynamite. When explosives are under pressure the damage done gets multiplied exponentially. One single fire-cracker in a tight fist is enough to blow your hand apart. True story. I say this from experience, not a net know it all. My cousin was packing just simple match-heads into a home-made rocket for a project for school and he blew the tips of his fingers off.... Were talking about match-heads, here. Never-mind something that was meant to blow up. I blew a parking slab in fucking half with an M-80, and the crack I stuck it in was loose as hell. That means the air around it STILL had time to dissipate before the actual shockwave hit the concrete. The slab of re-bar inside of it snapped and one half of of it slid at least a foot. This is what an M-80 does to a hand with PLENTY of open space to a hand. http://www.documentingreality.com/fo...auch-d-101070/ Tell me I'm wrong... please

Re: Firecracker Devastation To Face

Perhaps the term "firecracker" is a simple replacement for some type of "fireworks", which we all know can be large and very lethal if handled incorrectly.

You're all getting your panties in a knot over what it was specifically. I think it's simple enough to assume it was some type pyrotechnic fireworks.
