I bought fireworks in TN, I believe, with no issue. I asked if they were legal and the seller told me they were. No ID, no anything. Down there, they sold them by the side of the road all over.

Brought them home on a plane. This was before all the terrorist attacks. A few people in PA told me they were illegal and I could have been arrested.

Who knew? Meanwhile, I had a barrette set off a metal detector either coming from GA or TN. The guy behind me had metal buttons and he set it off, too.

Go figure!

I don't see how this guy would have a quarter stick close enough to his face to cause that much damage. An M-80 seems more plausible.
