Most of those are what the others have already stated: keloids. A keloid is basically an overgrowth of scar tissue. It is not from poorly attended hygiene or one not cleaning the sight regularly. The body simply does not know how to "turn off" the scar-producing tissues and it proliferates. It is commonly seen in those from African-American descent and can, rarely, be seen in Caucasians. Hope this helps clear that up. |

I had this big lump on the back of my ear next to one of my piercings. I went to the doctors and got cream with antibiotics and it went away for a bit but it returned. Then I would press a HOT flannel against it three times a day to draw all the pus and other stuff to the surface. Yesterday it was HUGE. I looked at it and I knew it was time. I sterilized a needle and made a few holes in it. The blood came out first then I squeezed it a bit and thick yellow pus came out. Then it wept all day and all night. Now it is mostly flat and has a slight scab and is less than half the size it was |

I heard that if you put a rubberband around it it will cut off the circulation and then it eventually falls off (dies) Not sure.. but my ex's sister is trying that right now.

Exactly, it "dies". Not good for the area being "treated". It kills, not only the "dead" areas, but also effects the areas of viable tissue.

Don't do that. Unless you want to risk a nasty infection or your ear falling off.

People should just pay the extra and go to a professional, i have had many piercings, even ones in my shoulder and never had a problem with them. Make sure that they are done with a needle, not a gun as a needle is a cleaner pierce and also more straight than using a gun, also for f**k sake spend the extra dollars and get titanium bars and hopefully with an internal thread as there is less chance for infections. Biggest mistake people make is using alcohol to clean the areas which is a big no no, sure it cleans the area but it also drys out the area which is bad for healing, use salt water of saline solution.
