Re: Ear Piercing Complications
When youre piercings get infected youre advised not to take it out until its healed. if you take the piercing out while its infected, the infection gets trapped inside. how youre supposed to treat it with it still in i have no idea, never had mine infected. |

Re: Ear Piercing Complications
Was that you I saw on, "Bizarre E.R.", the other day? Some guy was in a fight and his opponent bit off a good portion of his ear. He waited too long and it couldn't be reattached. Then, he was hairy and they were having trouble finding a place from which to remove skin to graft on the ear. He said he didn't mind having a big old hairy werewolf ear! He thought it would be pretty cool! Now, that's a great attitude! |

Re: Ear Piercing Complications
1, 3, 7 and 8 are keloid scars and they sometimes continue to grow even after the piercing is removed. These were probably done with a piercing gun, which causes far more trauma because they tear through the flesh instead of removing a piece of it like with needles. More trauma=more chance for scaring, infections, rejections. Sometimes, with a gun piercing, the post or the backing gets bent and the person can't remove their earring themselves. And as someone stated if you have an infection like this you shouldn't take it out. Get to a hospital and the doctors will form a treatment plan, usually consisting of antibiotics. And those sterile cleaning solutions that are sold in malls or dept stores are actually pretty bad for piercings. Sea salt and water is the best thing to use. So, don't get anything pierced with a gun unless you want pus filled balls of pain hanging off you. |

Re: Ear Piercing Complications
So, don't get anything pierced with a gun unless you want pus filled balls of pain hanging off you. Well, when you put it that way, I'd think about having piercings at all, lol! I had problems with all three of my left ear piercings and had them redone at a doctor's office, but, he used a gun, too. I take out those big stupid starter earrings and have little tiny holes in both ears. One of my nieces asked me to check one of her piercings because it hurt alot. The earring was through the part of your ear which I'm not sure is bone or cartilage, but, I took it out. I think she had it done by some dumb ass in a cheap jewelry store. |

Re: Ear Piercing Complications
You can't sterilize the guns. You can clean them, but they can't be 100% free of bacteria and shit like a single use, prepackaged piercing needle. And like I said, instead of removing a small chunk of flesh piercing guns literally rip and tear the tissue to make a hole. This trauma is hard on the body and usually results in infection. I had my ears done with a gun when I was 4, and they got pretty infected. And cartilage is a pain to heal anyway. Not very many people can successfully get a cartilage piercing. If you get one and it rejects or forms a keloid don't ever get another one because that will happen all over again. |

Re: Ear Piercing Complications
I say take them out, put some triple antibiotic ointment on them, unless you have something nasty coming out, wait a few months, then have them done again. Once in awhile, you may get a little bit of white stuff that smells like cheese, but, that usually goes away in a day or two, if you just clean the ears and earrings. I don't even sleep with earrings unless I fall asleep. I've had a few sucked out, too, lol! I hate that! |

Re: Ear Piercing Complications
If they are just a little itchy, Hydrocortisone Cream works well. You can use it anywhere excpet your eyes. In answer to your question, I believe there is no such thing as, "common sense". That phrase is an oxymoron, lol! Most people just don't think. Bottom line ;) |
