I've looked everywhere and searched so I don't believe there is a thread like this. The following photographs are for medical information only and some may be disturbing. HIV & AIDS have touched many lives and now it's almost impossible to find someone who doesn't know someone with these horrible diseases.
The first cases of AIDS in the world were actually noted in 1910 NOT 1981. The first patients to present with AIDS were found in 1960 in the US and were either Haitian or had traveled to Haiti and re entered the US. Although the first cases occurred in Africa (sub Saharan) in 1910 and are now thought to be related to people who hunted or sold bush meat from two groups of old world monkeys one being the green monkey the other Chimpanzee. The very first case in a first word country was in Norway in 1916.

Patient zero in the US was a gay male who had visited Haiti and had multiple sexual encounters with Haitian men. Upon returning to New York he continued to have promiscuous gay sex he then traveled to the west coast where he had two- three sexual encounters before returning to New York.

The sexual revolution: as we all know the sexual revolution of the 60s and early 70s was a time of "if it feels good, do it" this liberal attitude was not just confined to sex but also the use of narcotics such as heroine and other intravenous drugs. It was a time when sexual freedom was surfacing and the gay community was really coming "out of the closet". Forcing a real change in social norms and acceptance of sexual freedoms. Unfortunately this coming out led to many many factors that promoted risky sex practices. The once underground gay sex seen, became overly open with gay porn theaters opening mostly in the San Francisco and New York areas of the country. The laws of the time being constantly challenged led to a political climate that turned a blind eye to things like actual open glory hole sex and sex in public within these theaters.

Porn in all forms was already headed to the Supreme Court and found a big win in the high courts ruling that it was protected by the first amendment. It was the second time the court had ruled the same opinion. Porn actors of both sexes were having unprotected sex and male actors, who are generally paid far less than females were notably found in both straight and gay movies. Combine the fact that at the time ( and now) there were many closeted gay and bisexual men who were having unprotected sexual encounters with men who were infected at these theaters and other pick up spots then going home to their wives and having intercourse and there was no way out of a pandemic.

1981 clusters of gay men began showing the same symptoms of late stage HIV and AIDS. The disease was spreading fast and it was killing just as fast. Most men diagnosed with primary symptoms were dying within 2 years and the medical community and CDC were under pressure to find a cause. Though it was a slow start funding the research and the red tape seemed to be more than many researchers could handle. These men were mostly viewed as perverts who were dying from the "gay plague" and getting what they deserved.

Even at that time it was noted that there were two strains of the virus. The disease itself seemed to be able to adapt to and overcome all treatments available at the time. Currently there are 4 identifiable strains including one super strain that doesn't respond to most go to treatments and a not including one possible new super strain that is in debate that also doesn't respond to any known antivirals.

The HIV virus can go completely undetected for 10 years all the while the infected party is likely to be infecting partners. Also there is a new issue that has come around in the last few years, it is called gifting. Gay men seek out partners in order to become infected by the HIV virus and ask for the infection. There is a new fetish porn that has arrived where men are paid to be "gifted" by other porn actors who are high viral load in order to assure virus transfer. The ideology behind this is if an actor is already infected then he can continue to work with other infected actors bringing bigger money for bareback porn. So far there have been no known cases of women seeking out positive partners. Though as we all know there are some fuck'n twisted people out there who chase self harm.

According to the CDC HIV infections are climbing very quickly once again and the worry of more super strains developing is a genuine concern.
