Re: Diagnosis Skin Thing

Wouldn't ringworm lead to more than one spot? I would also assume one of my animals (cats, dog, rabbits) would have symptoms as well. They're all fine, except the dog who is about to be murdered if she doesn't quit chewing on her damn foot. Lol
your dog may have a yeast infection on its feet, get it checked out if you havent already

Re: Diagnosis Skin Thing

I've had a weird spot on the back of my neck for almost a year. It is driving me crazy! I haven't gone to the doctor because I don't have insurance. So, this think is about an inch in diameter and goes from being dry and scaly to angry red and seeping with sticky fluid, perhaps plasma. It itches, it burns when scratched and it gets worse after sleeping. It's also making me break out with pimples, which are hard to pop.

I've thrown everything I can think of at it: Neosporin, Cortisone, aloe vera, lotion, diaper rash cream, plain soap and water, athlete's foot cream, Betadine, Eczema spray, peroxide, rubbing alcohol, sunlight, talc powder (both scented and unscented), Vaseline, nothing at all, halobatol cream (which mostly worked but I don't have access to anymore).

This thing has been here for 9 months. I'm tired of putting up with it! Someone help!

I know ya'll aren't doctors, but perhaps you have a better solution until I get myself to the doctor. This isn't the only skin problem I have, but this one drives me the craziest most.
I had something like that. It actually progressed rapidly in a week from pustules on my neck to an infection on my groin and then scratches on my leg. I used a salve prepared from bee propylis. It was gone in three days.

Re: Diagnosis Skin Thing

I know I haven't posted in a while, everyone, but..... I'm BACK!!!!! I will say what I always do.....I know you do not have insurance, but you need to see a doc. There are reduced fee clinics you can go to on a sliding scale or go to the ER. The EMTALA Act states that any ER has to see you regardless of ability to pay. It could be ANY of the conditions the other posters have stated: eczema, ringworm, shingles, etc. There is no way to truly know until a micro is done by the lab. I have had patients with minor skin irritations that have turned out to be bacterial after months of outbreaks. Not trying to scare you, just trying to steer you in the right way. I am a med student and always err to the side of caution when someone asks for advice. No person can diagnose from a pic. As always, hope this helps.

I wonder if it could be Scabies? I don't know if Scabies oozes though although it might be infected from it.

Re: Diagnosis Skin Thing

This is going to sound really weird, but try a mineral foundation makeup on it. Mix it with a little of the clear poison ivy type anti-itch stuff that dries (not a cream that stays slimy for a while, as that will irritate it further). Apply it 3x or 4x a day or so. That is the only non-prescription thing that will work to clear up my eczema...and yours looks much the same.

Just make sure you get a mineral makeup that is PURE mineral. I'm not sure which minerals exactly do the trick; I didn't care, as long as it worked!!

Oh, I'm talking about loose powder foundation - not a liquid. ;o)

Re: Diagnosis Skin Thing

Contact dermatitis, dry skin scratch, repeat, right where the hot water from the shower hits your neck.

Keep your hand off, and vasaline.

Re: Diagnosis Skin Thing

As a long term sufferer of Plaque, Guttate, and eventually erythrodermic psoriasis, i am pretty confident in saying its not psoriasis.
Cant really say what it is from the pic, but a good start would be to note when it gets inflamed and see if there are any triggers.
My daughter has something similar and we did this. We found that it was a scarf she was using. Either the material or the dyes used set it off.

Hope you can get to the docs soon.

Re: Diagnosis Skin Thing

It could be a number of skin conditions but some prime suspects would be:

pityriasis rosea (although this clears up after time)
atopic dermatitis (although usually gets larger over time)
allergic contact detmatitis
Xerotic Eczema
Ringworm

What other skin problems do you have??
